About me:
I am a professional Audio Engineer
from Edinburgh, Scotland
Since around 1999 I have been delivering clear, undistorted impactful and effective audio systems. With a tilt towards immersive audio, I have worked in Theatre, Live Events and Music. Regardless of whether systems required are basic or complex, I give projects my full commitment.
Some of the productions I have had the pleasure to be involved in have travelled the world and continue to do so.

PRODUCTION PHOTOS
A production is only as strong and robust as the cables and systems connecting it together. Production audio engineering aims to determine and achieve the best methods possible in order to deliver a designer’s aims and goals through the production period and beyond.
Whether the task is simple such as specifying which cable or digital system to use in order to connect proposed systems robustly or implementing the plans of a designer,
the goal is the same.
Robust and repeatable audio system operation and installation
while the show is delivering to audiences.
The goal of a production audio engineer is to build the show’s audio systems and document them and then re-implement the show in a repeatable way. This often involves staying with the production and tuning the shows system as it moves venue to venue.
PRODUCTION SOUND ENGINEERING
One of my most frequently utilised skills is in Sound System Tuning and Alignment.
I have spent much of my career tuning theatre sound systems. I am no stranger to positional audio where the goal is full transparency but am equally at home aligning everything for a left centre right mix. I’ve been doing this for well over 15 years at this point using various processors such as the Galileos, DMEs and more often than not, my ears.
I have studied Bob Mcarthy’s book, PA Systems Design and Optimisation and understand best practices in speaker placement as well as how to align coherently. I own a multi microphone Smaart 9 Suite system with wireless connectivity and can provide it at a cost.
Many of the shows I move tend to have limited time to align the systems however and more often than not, I align with my ears using pink noise and validating with show audio.

SOUND SYSTEM OPTIMISATION
For Theatre, I have a number of credits to my name as a Sound Designer. Design can be fun and rewarding and I enjoy pushing boundaries. I aim to realise the full potential of a production’s sound system through careful design, assured system implementation and experimentation.
I am trained in and utilise a number of audio packages in order to do so. I use Universal Audio’s UAD2 system along with a wide range of hardware effects including Lexicon and Neve in order to process audio creatively with rich tonal qualities directed towards listeners.
I have designed for Theatre, Live Music and Corporate Events. Please contact me if you feel I can provide value to your production.
SOUND DESIGN
In 2005 I was trained at the School of Audio Engineering. The education there allowed a set of skills enabling the manipulation and recording of audio as well as to hone in on the tools of the trade using industry standard equipment.
I had access to the Neve console there and learned extensively how to use Pro Tools. I still keep these skills up to date and I maintain a small studio system centred around Apple’s Logic and a Eucon control surface. I still keep a Pro Tools HD system although it’s been largely superseded with a modern system.
I use Dante network audio to allow me to piece together and expand my studio systems. From a small computer with a thunderbolt dock, I can record hundreds of channels.
Using UAD2 plugins, I can further expand the system to have low latency effects and processing. I have licensed a large number of the UAD-2 Plugins but I also own Neve, Avalon and Lexicon Studio hardware as well as high end converters. My entire system is portable and I can easily transport it in a car for location recordings.
